Labiaplasty surgery is a cosmetic procedure where the size of the inner and outer labia are reduced. It may be done in conjunction with a vaginoplasty. Women may choose to have a labia reduction because they wish to improve the aesthetic appearance of their vagina or because the size of their labia causes discomfort during daily activities, especially while wearing tight clothes. Some women have labiaplasty to remove excess tissue covering their clitoris in order to enhance their sexual experience.

Labiaplasty – Labial Reduction for Large Labia

In many instances, women are born with large labia while others may develop the condition following childbirth or with age. Labiaplasty is surgery to reduce or modify the size of the labia. Women seek labiaplasty consultation for possible revision of the size of their labia for two reasons: functional, aesthetic, or a combination of the two.

Functional reasons for labiaplasty/labial reduction can include discomfort or irritation experienced when wearing tight fitting bottoms or while engaging in sports such as cycling or other physical activities. Other functional reasons include hygiene difficulties and labia that interfere with intimate relations.

Aesthetic (beautification) reasons for Labiaplasty include self-consciousness and self-esteem issues or simply a desire to achieve a better look. Women seeking aesthetic labiaplasty wish to remove excess skin from the labia minora between the outer lips (labia majora).
